IEC/BS EN 62305-3 Compliance

At Meclec, based in Ashford, Kent, we deliver complete design, installation, maintenance, and remediation services for commercial, industrial, and public sector Lightning Protection Systems (LPS). Working strictly in accordance with IEC/BS EN 62305-3 standards, our specialist engineering team ensures your structures, equipment, and occupants remain fully safe from physical lightning damage and transient overvoltage risks.

LIGHTINING PROTECTION SYSTEMS

Core Services & Technical Capabilities

Targeted remedial works to address defects, physical damage, or high resistance readings identified during scheduled 11-month statutory inspection cycles. We restore full structural protection and issue clear compliance certification.
Equipotential bonding applied to rooftop HVAC plant, structural steelwork, metal cladding, pipework, and conductive fixtures to eliminate dangerous side-flashing hazards
Design and retrofitting of tape/cable down conductors alongside low-resistance earthing networks—including driven earth rods, earth mats, and ring conductors engineered to achieve required resistance thresholds
Supply and integration of heavy-duty Type 1 / Class 1 Surge Protection Devices (SPDs) at main electrical distribution points to safeguard power infrastructure against direct lightning strikes and atmospheric surges
Seamless integration connecting the external Lightning Protection System directly to the facility’s Main Earthing Terminal (MET) to prevent dangerous potential differences during a lightning event

Why IEC/BS EN 62305-3 Compliance Matters

The IEC/BS EN 62305 standard defines the mandatory requirements for protecting structures against direct strikes and secondary electrical surge effects:

  1. Physical Damage Protection (Part 3): Requires a continuous, correctly spaced network of air terminations, down conductors, and earth termination systems to channel lightning current safely into the ground.

  2. 11-Month Inspection Cycle: Recommended by regulatory guidelines to account for seasonal variations in soil moisture and earth resistance, ensuring all components are tested across all seasons over a multi-year period.

  3. Surge Protection Integration (Part 4): Ensures incoming mains electrical supplies are protected by coordinated Class 1 SPDs to prevent catastrophic equipment damage or fire.

KEY APPLICATIONS

  1. Commercial office buildings and industrial warehouses
  2. Data centers, manufacturing plants, and utility substations
  3. Educational, healthcare, and public sector facilities
  4. Residential apartment blocks and multi-occupancy complexes
